  • Always check other available mobile phone retailers to find the cheapest package for your needs. Try getting a better deal, you may not get a reduced line rental or call charges, but you may get some added extras such as fascias or other accessories thrown in.

  • It is important after you have bought your phone to continue thinking about, when you are using your phone, who you are calling, and for how long. Mobile phone companies should allow you to switch tariffs should you find you using the phone more or less than expected.
  • Consider insurance. As mobile phone technology is on the increase, so is mobile phone crime. It is worth thinking about insuring your phone against theft, damage and calls not made by you.
  • If all of your friends, relatives or business associates have mobile phones it is a good idea to think about what network they are using. Cross network, calls are expensive (e.g. Vodafone- Orange) but calling another mobile on the same network is often only charged at local rate. Think about it could save you a lot of money.
  • There are concerns among some scientists that mobile phones could be harmful to humans. Whilst it is not certain it would be a good idea to read the Government's report in to mobile phone safety.
  • When carrying your mobile phone around with you, always try to insure the keypad is locked. Unwanted '999' calls from mobile phones are common and can waste the valuable time of emergency services.
  • Mobile phones can now be personalised by adding ring tones and logos. There is huge amount of companies supplying them, but it is important to the consider costs. They are often ordered via telephone and charged as peak rate calls. It could work out more expensive than buying them direct from the various networks' websites.
  • Terms and conditions are important, so make sure you read and understand all agreements before signing.
  • SMS - This term refers to text messages. It is possible on most mobile phones to send short text messages from one phone to another using SMS (Short Messaging Service) technology.
  • WAP - This refers to the technology that will allow you to surf certain parts of the Internet using your mobile phone.
  • Fascia - Fascias are the interchangeable casings that are used for mobile phones. They can be bought separately and in various colours and styles.
